Of all the window styles we have available at Your Remodeling Guys, the two most distinguished are definitely the bay and bow windows. These styles take a classical approach to design as they extend beyond the outside of your home with either an angular shape or rounded arch. This creates a discernible look that’s reminiscent of Victorian or Colonial stylings. Though both can work on any style of home, smaller homes typically do better with bay windows since their size is more proportionate to the home. When it comes to structural differences, each window has a unique makeup that distinctly separates the two from one another.
Bay Window Makeup
Bay windows are comprised of three different windows with the center being larger in size. The center pane is typically going to be of the fixed variety such as a picture window. Most homeowners use either casements windows or double-hung windows as the flanking windows. Once the style of the makeup windows is decided, they are adjacently affixed to one another with the flanking windows angularly attached to the wall. By attaching the flanking windows angularly, the distinctive protruding shape of the bay window is produced. Due to the larger center window, bays are able to produce beautiful unobstructed views of your outdoor area while also having a great deal of ventilation thanks to the operable flanking windows.
Bow Window Makeup
Bow windows are similar in makeup to bays but they are comprised of four to six windows of equal proportion instead of three windows of different proportions. Bow windows create a more symmetrical and arched design than bay windows mostly because of the equal size in compositional windows and a sharper angle from which the flanking windows are hung. The sharper angles at which these windows are hung help them provide a great deal more ventilation than the smaller bay window. However, their composition of equal-sized windows, typically double-hung, single-hung, or casement, diminishes their ability to provide unobstructed views.
Other Window Perks from Bay & Bow
Though each window has its own unique composition and appeal, they are each designed to provide homeowners with gorgeous views and great natural airflow. Additionally, they each provide increased interior space since the design of the window extends them beyond your home’s exterior wall. This extra space is great for shelving or window side seating. Best of all, when you choose Your Remodeling Guys as the source of your replacement windows, you can be certain that your new windows will be highly energy efficient.
