Determining the Insulation Needs of Your Attic

12-Point Inspection Performed on Your Home

No one wants to waste money on something they don’t need, especially if that something is supposed to improve your home. This heavily applies to attic insulation since its sole purpose is to provide your home with improved energy efficiency. Unfortunately, there are many homes in Harrisburg and surrounding areas that are ill-equipped as far as attic insulation is concerned. Too many times, these homeowners fall victim to installing the wrong type of insulation that just ends up being a waste of money. At Your Remodeling Guys, we want to help you avoid that, which is why our attic insulation program includes a 12-point visual inspection by our Building Performance Institute accredited inspectors. We do a walk-through inspection of your home to determine which types of heat transfer and the areas that are costing you the most.

Our Home Insulation Solutions:

  • Blown-in Cellulose: Cellulose is our most affordable insulation type, making it a greater energy-saving option for those on a tighter budget. The insulation is blown into your wall cavities to help reduce conductive heat transfer. Some drawbacks with this type is that it does settle, which can leave parts of your wall without insulation and recent data has shown it to be more susceptible to mold, particularly when combined with a vapor barrier.
  • Air-Sealing Foam: We use this material to reduce convective heat transfer. The air sealing foam is applied to any areas in your home through which heat can be transferred in the air. Air-sealing foams are typically rated with an R-Value of roughly 5 to 6.
  • Fiberglass Insulation: Most homes are fit with fiberglass insulation and it is designed to protect against conductive heat transfer. It works by trapping conductive heat in the millions of tiny fibers that make it up. This effectively slows the transference.
  • Reflective Foil: This type of insulation is used specifically to combat radiant heat transfer. The high reflective properties of the material allow it reflect radiant heat away, which keeps if from infiltrating or exiting your home. Furthermore, it has low-emissivity values that keeps it from reemitting heat that it takes on.
